Trey Songz is facing an $18 million lawsuit over the rights to the music on his hit song "Bottoms Up" with Nicki Minaj.
The suit, which was filed on February 2, claims that Doc Mob Records hired producer Milton James (known as Tony Scales) to produce the original copyrighted track of "Bottoms Up." The lawsuit notes that the song appears on Trey Songz's album Passion, Pain, and Pleasure without listing all the relevant producers, naming Kane Beatz as the song's sole producer.
The suit names Songz, Atlantic Records, Kodak (who used the song in an advertising campaign), Songz's manager Gee Robertson, and producer Kane Beatz, among others.
Documents filed also note that Atlantic Records and Trey Songz were sent various cease-and-desist letters by Doc Mob's Derrick Price, which they ignored.
